Aurora Orsini
Italian guitarist Aurora Orsini is rapidly gaining international acclaim as she wins competitions and captivates audiences across Europe. Now, VCGS is delighted to welcome her to Vancouver as she makes her Canadian debut. Aurora holds Master’s and postgraduate degrees in classical guitar from the University of Alicante and Italy’s Boccherini Conservatoire, and has studied with luminaries such as Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Sergio Assad. She performs extensively across Europe and collaborates in chamber ensembles, notably the Estra Duo.
She studied in Spain at the University of Alicante and obtained her first Master Degree at the young age of twenty. She has been selected twice to study at the Chigiana Academy with Oscar Ghiglia and Eliot Fisk, obtaining the diploma for best student of the year. She won several scholarships, including those offered by the Alhambra Guitarras Foundation and the International Guitar Foundation (IGF) of London.
In 2020, she won the audition for a place in the orchestra of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, where she later performed under the baton of Zubin Mehta and Daniele Gatti. She collaborates both as an orchestral player and soloist with the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, the Orchestra Archè, the Orchestra Boccherini, the Orchestra Musa, and the Orchestra Suoni del Sud.
Since 2020, she has performed with soprano Sofia Celenza, with whom she founded the Estra Duo project, focusing on early music and 20th-century music for soprano and guitar. Their album “Classical Folksongs” will be released in 2025 by Da Vinci Publishing. As a chamber musician, she has participated in national and international competitions, including the “G. Rospigliosi Competition” in 2022, where she won 2nd Prize. Aurora is also a virtuosic mandolin player.
She has performed on several occasions as a soloist with the orchestra. In 2018, she was selected as the top student at the “L. Boccherini” Conservatoire, giving her the opportunity to perform Heitor Villa-Lobos’ “Guitar Concerto” at the inauguration of the academic year. At the Accademia Filarmonica Romana in Rome, she performed Joaquín Rodrigo’s “Fantasia para un Gentilhombre” with the Orchestra Musa.
Aurora is a versatile dynamic performer, keen on experimenting with other disciplines and finding new ways of performing classical music.
